Mountains and Communications

This is just a brief update to point out some of the issues that can be encountered when working at the limits of communication satellites.  The ship relies on a satellite at 22 Deg West,  above the Equator,  for all our primary comms.  At our current position this means that the elevation of the satellite above the horizon is about five degrees. When we park in a beautiful spot to carry out some work and there is a very high mountain close by,  then the signal to our dish does not go through the rock of the mountain and our comms drops out.  We have alternative systems, so we are never out of touch with our office in Cambridge,  but our regular email and web browsing stops - which includes our webcam.  This may well happen again as we continue our passage further west.
